Starting in 2012, the Maryland Department of Natural Resources asked the Astronomy Club of Southern Maryland to conduct public star parties at its Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary location near Croom, Maryland. All sessions are on a Saturday evening. Telescopes are set up in a mowed field adjacent to the Merkle visitor center.
Please come out and participate. Bring a telescope, your family, and invite your friends to come stargaze with us there.

Club member Mark invited us to his home observatory to view the total eclipse of the Moon. Gosh, was it cold! The wind chill was brutal, but his dome cut the wind, and the building that houses his observatory offered a warm space - which we retreated to often.
Skies improved from milky high clouds to clear, and we got to see the event from partial to total.
